Gracie Square Hospital

A Cornerstone of Mental Health Care in New York City for More than 60 Years

For over six decades, Gracie Square Hospital has provided comprehensive and personalized behavioral health care to thousands of individuals in New York City and beyond. Mental health is an essential part of everyone’s well-being. Gracie Square recognizes dealing with mental illness can be complex, and at times intimidating. We remain steadfast in our commitment and ability to provide the highest quality mental health care, and with the help of our compassionate team, no one needs to handle this alone.

Transformation and Revitalization

Gracie Square Hospital is experiencing robust changes. With a 133-bed capacity, the hospital is experiencing an extraordinary period of growth and transformation. Through our partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian, New York's #1 hospital (as ranked by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Survey) and one of the nation's premiere academic healthcare delivery systems, we are working to improve the lives of our patients and their loved ones through innovative ways to treat mental illness. Our goal is recovery and treatment for our patients, and we continue our work on removing the stigma of mental illness.

Over the last few years, Gracie Square has implemented a number of improvements to our physical spaces and expansion of our patient-centered programs. We are proud to offer a warm and welcoming environment that features:

Behavioral Health Care, Reimagined

Every patient who comes through the doors of Gracie Square Hospital benefits from the experience and compassion of dedicated team members who provide creative and considerate care. Our comprehensive, interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, nurse practitioners, internists, rehabilitation therapists, pastoral care, and volunteers offers individual, group, and family counseling. A physician is on-site 24/7. We offer immersive programs specializing in mental health and communal wellness for local Asian and Orthodox Jewish communities, both young and older adults, and patients needing crisis stabilization, treatment for mood and psychotic disorders, and those also struggling with addiction.

The patient experience is further enhanced by a pet therapy program (in association with the Good Dog Foundation), a Care Partner Program, and movie streaming and iPad use. Hourly comfort rounds by our staff, noise reduction efforts, and extended visiting hours make each patient's stay with us the most comfortable it can be.
